Lit up like a Christmas tree – every reflective surface activated, lights blazing – I rolled onto the roundabout feeling invincible. Then some driver decided to use the next entry as a launching pad, zooming straight at me like they"d forgotten circles have rules. Pure instinct took over, throwing the bike sideways while my brain was still processing. Another second and we"d have been exchanging insurance details through the paramedics.
The ride from Stiavnik came with nature"s own car wash service. Enjoyed every minute of the soaking – the aftermath, not so much. Nothing says fun like post-ride maintenance. Still, the rain did half the work, stripping the grime like a pressure washer. Back home, a quick hose-down removed the sand and road debris. Not showroom clean, but good enough for government work.
My chain was living on borrowed time, the wax pushed to its limit. I"d planned to squeeze one more short ride tomorrow, really test those wax lifetime claims. But the rain made that decision for me – forced rewaxing today. Maybe a blessing in disguise, like the universe saying "stop being cheap with your drivetrain."
Strange thing about wet rides – despite water streaming down my skin, the wind felt surprisingly warm. No shivers, no cold bite, just this weird tropical storm sensation. The water drops flinging off my front wheel caught in the light beam, creating this hypnotic light show. Each drop a tiny shooting star in my personal meteor shower.
Another one for the memory bank. The Sloth Racing Team may not be fast, but we"re definitely memorable.
